The Void are very private individuals, shunning self seeking publicity in favour of seclusion and obscurity. Here for the first time we uncover the truth about the enigmatic duo in a quest to understand what drives them.
Making up The Void are siblings Lloyd & Boyd, who form the nucleus of the band and although there has been one appearance of their other brother Floyd on an obscure track titled Strip It, the pair seem to be it.
Growing up in the inner suburbs of Melbourne, Australia provided the perfect backdrop for the two creative brothers. Their first band featured Lloyd on the families Lowery organ, whilst Boyd honed his tradecraft on a $15 nylon string acoustic guitar. They went under the name of "Bile" a moniker that, at the time, was as poignant as it was stupid. "I remember spewing up before our first gig" one of the lads quoted in a rare interview. Meanwhile Floyd was cutting his teeth drumming in a Knack cover band playing, for the most part, shopping centers. Craving some of this action Lloyd & Boyd joined an all girl GoGos cover band but the heavy makeup and costuming soon took it's toll on the young musicians and the pair left to write their own tunes for what was later to become The Void.
Sighting musical influences as diverse as Debbie Gibson and Duran Duran the pair embarked on a musical journey that would take them all the way to the lofty heights of this website. Not content with the traditional approach to popular music the band became increasingly experimental with their home recording techniques, often playing their instruments out of tune or hitting them with sticks to find that elusive "one off original."
The experiments didn't stop with their instruments, however, and before long drugs began to take over thier lives. Although burned out shells, Lloyd & Boyd actually wrote some of their finest work in this dark, yet illuminating period. Songs like Feel It (see sounds page) Spazz Rock and Acid were a direct result of the band's habitual substance abuse and stand as testimony to their unorthodox way of working. This would also account for why the pair are very sketchy on details such as when or where most of their songs were written and recorded, let alone who played which instruments on what. Although most of the recordings have survived this turbulent period, very few other details exist.
